Meditation is not a religion, it’s a science.

In this post, we are going to answer some of the most common questions about meditation.

Where does the word ‘Meditation’ come from?

The word, ‘Meditation’ is derived from two different Latin words:

  1.  ‘ìmeditariî’ which means: ‘to think’, ‘dwell upon’ or to ‘exercise the mind’.
  2. ìmederiî ‘ which simply means, ‘to heal’.

Put these words together and you will find the basic meaning of meditation,  a time for your to reach deep in your mind, to heal and to re-energise.

What Does Meditation Mean and Whats All The Fuss About?

Meditate: (Verb) Focus one’s mind for a period of time, in silence or with the aid of chanting, for religious or spiritual purposes or as a method of relaxation.
Oxford English Dictionary

As mentioned above, meditation is about deep thinking, healing, and relaxation. One of the most important and most talked about aspects of meditation is awareness.

Why awareness? When you meditate, your senses become heightened, distractions are removed from the mind and you concentrate on your own breathing and body. Being aware of your body and breathing helps to truly find your inner peace and relax in a way that you may have never been able to before.

There are many different types of meditation, no one type is better than another. It’s a personal choice. Some use meditation to block out the world and their problems, others use meditation to find mindfulness and look at their problems in a new, calmer way.

However you meditate, the focus is to find your peace, to calm a busy mind and find clarity. It takes practice, but in the end meditation can and will change your life.
